Pingelap was selected for this initiative because of its rich local food resources and the clear need for improved post-harvest processing. Many traditional crops remain underutilized due to the lack of appropriate technology and reliable energy.
The Asian Development Bank supports this project through the Technology Innovation Challenge, providing grant funding and technical backing to pilot clean energy solutions that reduce food loss and improve livelihoods.
The Pingelap Municipal Government, including the Mayor and local officials, actively supports the project, ensuring it aligns with community priorities and traditional practices.
Saviru Technologies introduces clean energy-powered food processing solutions tailored for remote island settings. This includes solar dryers, energy efficient heat-pump dryers, other processing equipment, and hands-on training to help the community build sustainable food enterprises.
Lih Pingelap Deke Inc. is a women-led community organization in Pingelap focused on sustainability, self-sufficiency, and economic empowerment. Through this initiative, the women of Pingelap intend to ensure food security, preserve traditional practices, create jobs, and improve the livelihoods across the island community.
